Labor Day 2006

Director’s Message

As we observe Labor Day, the Employment Development Department salutes the women and men whose hard work has made California the world’s sixth largest economy.
The EDD has long played an important role in helping Californians find jobs. Whether you are looking for your first job or thinking about a new career, we offer many services that can help you with your employment needs including access to one-stop career centers, labor market information, CalJOBSSM, and much more.
Additionally, as part of our Labor Day celebration, we are featuring "My First Job," which showcases some of these proud Californians from all walks of life and their first efforts in the world of work – doctors and writers, teachers and entrepreneurs, and many more. You will be surprised – and inspired – at the myriad of experiences that shape successful careers.
I hope you will take this opportunity to explore the valuable resources available to Californians through our Web site and perhaps find the job of your dreams.
PATRICK W. HENNING, Director
