In an effort to assist the Workforce Community, we have provided links to some Web sites with funding opportunities. However, this is not an all-inclusive listing but is provided as a source of grant information. This site provides current and on-going funding opportunities. Some of the Web sites listed below provide free automatic e-mail notification services announcing new grants. Visit the Web sites and sign up for up-to-date information (if available).

  • Addressing Workforce Needs in Your Community - Requests for Proposals - Deadline: Phase 1: Ends February 29, 2008
    Phase 2: March 1 – April 30, 2008
    Phase 3: May 1 – June 30, 2008
    Performance Excellence Partners, Inc. (PEP) received a task order award under their U.S. Department of Labor contract to produce 20-50 events at which leaders and staff from Faith-Based and Community Organizations and the Workforce System will produce specific, new collaboration strategies to prepare individuals to be work-ready and competent. PEP is soliciting local or state Workforce Investment Boards as federal subcontractors to create these events. Successful proposals will be reimbursed up to $5,000 for a local event, or up to $10,000 for regional or statewide events. These events may include meetings, webinars, focus groups, and/or other venues that accomplish the stated outcomes. No more than $15,000 will be awarded within any one state. PEP will administer the proposal, subcontract and reporting processes.


  • Urban and Non-Urban Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP)Deadline May 14, 2008
    The Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service announces the availability of 3.5 million in grant funds for programs to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that address problems facing homeless veterans. Eligible organizations include state and local workforce investment boards, non-profits and community-based organizations. Awards are expected to range from $75,000 to a maximum of $200,000 for grants that serve non-urban areas and from $75,000 to a maximum of $300,000 for grants that serve urban areas.


  • National Emergency or Disaster Grants to Assist Low-Income Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers - Deadline: May 20, 2008
    The Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services announces funding opportunities to provide grants for vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities who are migrant and seasonal farmworkers, as determined in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Secretary of Labor, and to the family members who are residing with such individuals. Estimated available funds are $337,700 with awards ranging from $145,000 - $195,000.


  • Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) GrantsDeadline: June 6, 2008
    The Women's Bureau (WB) and the Employment and Training Administration's Office of Apprenticeship (OA), U.S. Department of Labor, announce the availability of $1,000,000 to establish a grant program to assist employers and labor unions in the placement and retention of women in apprenticeship and nontraditional occupations. The OA and the WB plan to disburse 2007 WANTO grant funds to three community-based organization (CBO)/registered apprenticeship program (RAP) consortia. Each CBO/RAP consortium must consist of a minimum of: (1) A construction industry RAP sponsor; and (2) a CBO (which may be a faith- based organization) with demonstrated experience in providing job training services (work readiness as well as industry-specific training), placement, and support services to women for construction industry jobs. Approximately $300,000 each will be awarded to no more than three CBO/RAP consortia.


  • Gamble Foundation Grants (for disadvantaged youth) - The Gamble Foundation is primarily interested in supporting organizations that serve disadvantaged children and youth in San Francisco, Marin and Napa counties. Within the field of youth development, the Foundation focuses on educational and personal enrichment programs designed to open doors of opportunity for at-risk youth in order to help them succeed in school and become productive, self-sufficient members of society. The Foundation is particularly interested in agricultural/environmental education, vocational training, and programs that prevent substance abuse and teen violence. To a lesser degree, the Foundation supports environmental organizations that focus on land preservation and sustainability, animal welfare and management, and pollution control. Requests must be submitted prior to January 1st for consideration in a given calendar year.


  • Microsoft Unlimited Potential Grants
    Unlimited Potential (UP) is the primary focus of Microsoft’s corporate philanthropy efforts. The UP grants provide nonprofit organizations with funding to support technology training programs ranging from learning basic computer skills to using advanced business productivity applications. Donations of cash, software, curriculum, and technical expertise enable individuals to learn about technology and gain the information technology (IT) skills needed for employment in the IT field or other industry sectors. The UP grants are made through Microsoft’s U.S. and international subsidiaries, which work closely with local organizations to identify community-based technology and learning centers where IT skills training is a primary focus. Funding decisions are made in March and October of each year.


  • Technology Training Foundation of America - The Technology Training Foundation of America is dedicated to bridging the digital divide through free donations of high-quality computers and peripherals through its Computer Refurbishing Program. The program also provides hands-on computer training for state and federal inmates and the opportunity to give back to communities useful technology.   • A Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing - This article is available on the National Association of Social Workers Web site. This article examines the critical components of developing funding proposals.


  • California Workforce Investment Board - The California Workforce Investment Board is responsible for assisting the Governor in performing the duties and responsibilities required by the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998. This site provides the latest news, funding opportunities, and legislation that may affect California's workforce community.


  • Department of Labor Funds in California Local Areas - This site lists Department of Labor grants in California Local Workforce Investment Areas.


  • Grant Opportunities Notebook - The Department of Health and Human Services published the 2005 grant opportunities notebook for Grassroots organizations. This notebook includes over 40 grants for faith-based and community organizations.


  • GrantWatch - NASWA members can view a listing of federal and private sector grant opportunities. The listing is available by visiting Member Services and clicking on the link titled GrantWatch under the Special Services heading. GrantWatch currently lists grant opportunities made available from the Department of Labor, Housing & Urban Development, Education, Justice and Amazon.com


  • A Guide to the Competitive Grant Process - The Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, created this guide to provide grant applicants with general information on programs. This guide intends to be an aid in developing the grant application package and to answer frequently asked questions.


  • HHS Grant Information Resources - This document provides information about the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants, including grant process, grant information sources, and prinicipal granting agencies.


  • NASWA/CESER - The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) is the national organization of state administrators of unemployment insurance, employment and training services, and labor market information programs in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The Center for Employment Security Education and Research is the education and research arm of NASWA devoted to improving government services to America's workers and employers.
