Summary: The African American Community Empowerment Organization will prepare homeless youth and adults for the job market with resume/application development, media skills (i.e., camera work, editing, writing), computer training, preparation for GED, and vocational English instruction. This project will stress the importance of a good attitude to raise for raising participant’s self-esteem. Professionals within the community will provide counseling in a pro bono arrangement. Transportation will also be provided to pick up residents from shelters and other areas when necessary.

Summary: California State University, Long Beach Foundation – Center for Career Studies and the Church of Elohim Ministries have formed a partnership to provide vocational training to economically disadvantaged individuals in the Long Beach area. The program incorporates basic literacy and Vocational English as a second language (VESL) instruction into a single curriculum. The project addresses needs in the community for workers in the information technology and health care industries.

Summary: Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa reaches across geography, age, and work history barriers to bring individualized employment services to disadvantaged individuals through its "Coach 2 Career" program. Working collaboratively with local One-Stop Service Centers and "loaned executives" volunteers, services will include vocational planning and volunteer-based job coaching to the participants.

Summary: The CHAMPIONS Recovery Alternative Programs, Inc. will provide intensive substance abuse education and counseling, job-readiness training, placement, and long-term follow-up services to residents of Kings County. Summary: Through its "PARTNERS" program, Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries, (FIRM Inc.) will address Fresno ounty’s unemployment problems through the expansion of cultural and language related employment services. FIRM will work with up to 81 percent of Fresno County’s welfare recipients. Services will include case-management and placement services. FIRM will also provide connections for participants to employers, team mentoring programs, children/teen- nurturing programs, child care training for elders, vocational English training, resources for economic literacy, and self-employment opportunities.

Summary: Welcome Home Ministries will provide services, to recently incarcerated women. Services will be customized to provide a successful transition from incarceration to being productive citizens. Participants will be located/recruited through an aggressive outreach to local law enforcement agencies.
